PET - BRAIN CANCER
65-year-old male referred to evaluate brain lesion with clinical suspicion of
ischemia.CT and MR showed lesion in left frontal parietal region, surrounded by
edema, with characteristics that indicated it could be a metastatic lesion. PET
ordered to confirm brain lesion and look for primary.FDG brain scan found high
glucose uptake in the left frontal parietal lesion with an adjacent hypometabolic
region. A small hypermetabolic focus was seen in the upper temporal. Whole-body
scan (same injection) was negative for metastases.Surgery revealed grade 4 anaplastic
astrocytoma surrounded by edema. The tumor was found infiltrating the upper temporal
region.
